Kayseri Travel Guide
Tucked into the mountains of Central Anatolia is Kayseri, home of the famous cured beef called pastirma. From a heavily industrialized town, Kayseri transforms into a wonderland of skiers every winter due to its snowcapped Mount Erciyes.
A visit to Kayseri might bring visitors back to memory lane as the town is home to a number of historical landmarks and monuments such as the 12th century Ulu Mosque, Haci Kilic Mosque, and Huna Natun Cami Mosque, a cylindrical tomb with intricate design due to the combination of several architectural traditions like Seljuk, Persian and Byzantine. There are also Sekjuks tombs like Mahperi Hatun Mausoleum, Döner Kümbet and medreses (schools) like Sahabiye Medrese, Çifte, the very first anatomy theological school, and Gevher Nesibe, now called the Medical History Museum.
Apart from sight-seeing, it is also possible to do white-rafting at the rapids of Zamanti River or wander at the historical villages in the outskirts of the town. Among these villages are Develi, Sinan Architect village of Agirnas, Talas, and Elia Kazan's village.
Furthermore, the town is famed for its hand-woven carpets or kilim, garlic sausage or "sucuk," and manti (filled pasta), which can be bought in bazaars like Bedesten and Vezir Hani.
