Anatolia is also known as Asia Minor and comprises most of modern Turkey. It is a region bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the south, the Black Sea to the north, the bulk of the Asian mainland to the east and the Aegean Sea to the west.
Ankara is the capital of Turkey and is a modern city with traces of past thrown in with the help of various historic ruins. The Mausoleum of Ataturk, which is on the hill, is a special tribute to the founder of the Modern Turkey. It also contains the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. The museum has many evidences of the cultures and peoples who have lived in Anatolia in the past. The Temple of Augustus should be of interest to people who have an inclination to Roman sites. The Kale (the castle) area offers the best of entertainment and dining opportunities for anyone who's interested in the same.
Goreme and Urgup are two popular tourist spots which have cave dwellings around them. Goreme Open Air Museum contains churches and chapels which are from the 10th century.
Catalhoyuk is an extremely ancient city, and is also a very important archeological site. It will hold interest only for archaeology fans as there is no much sightseeing to be done by any traveler.
The Ala Mountains provides ample trekking and mountaineering activities all around it.
Cappadocia is situated in central Anatolia. One can find cave churches and chapels shaped out of soft stones. The Cappadocia Valley offers an amazing view which can be seen from the castle located in Uchisar. Cappadocia offers lovely shopping options like artistic carpets and wines from the local area. The scenery all around can easily entice a tourist to keep photographic memories captured on their cameras.
The Zelve valley is an ideal place to experience a wild hike. While the Ihlara gorge lies along the Melendiz River and has a length of 16 kilometers. It also displays churches carved in the rocks and the churches have interesting frescoes.
Konya has many monuments dating back from the Selcuk period. Anadoluhisarı is also of interest as it was erected as a watch fort and has a 25 m high quadratic main tower along with five watchtowers in the corners
