Among the many countries in the Arctic region, Norway,is called The Land of the Midnight Sun. Norway has plenty to offer for tourists-from snow capped mountains, ski resorts, lakes, woods and of course the fjords.
Oslo, the capital city has many sculptural marvels. A must-see is the Vigeland Sculpture Park, which looks spectacular with 212 sculptures in bronze and granite, entwined as human figures by sculptor Gustav Vigeland, singly without help from any of his disciples! The sprawling lawns with the splendid sculptures will consume much space in your rolls.
Akershus Fortress, Oslo dating back to 1299, is a Medieval Castle, where the changing of guards takes place daily at 1:30pm. The Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo contains the ski jump tower. Housing the World's oldest Ski museum and ski simulator, you will enjoy the thrill of jumping at Holmenkollen! The sculpture of King Olav V greets visitors. Within are many souvenir shops. The Hoppcafe is famous for Kollen cakes.
Discover Norwegian culture by visiting the Norwegian Folk Museum, Oslo. The major attraction is the Open-Air Museum, featuring 155 authentic buildings from various national regions, including the 13th century Gol Stav Church. In summer, you get to see folk dances. A demonstration of traditional Norwegian arts and crafts is also held.
The Viking Ship Museum, at Bygdoy Oslo, you'll find excavated exhibits of the Tune, Gokstad, Borre and Oseberg! The moment you enter, you'll find the Oseberg Ship. There's a souvenir and jewelry shop too.
Bryggen is famous for its series of Hanseatic commercial buildings. The rows of buildings facing the sea date back to 900 years. These quaint and majestic buildings along the harbor have been placed in UNESCO'S World Heritage List.
Travelling in the Coastal Express on a 12 day trip along the Norwegian coast, from Bergen to Kirkenes, is an unforgettable journey, as you traverse the land that throws many contrasts! As your eyes marvel at the sight of verdant fields, you'll suddenly spot barren rocks, even as you get used to these, you'll then sight fishing hamlets, the sea, towns and narrow fjords!
Another of Norway's popular attractions is the Flaam Railway, traversing between the high mountain station at Myrdal on Bergen Line and Flaam station in Aurlandfjord. The scenery is breathtaking, as you sight snowcapped peaks, meandering rivers cutting gorges and cascading waterfalls and farms atop slopes!
If vacationing with children, you'd like to visit Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park in Kritiansand, where, animals have wide open spaces to roam and you'll still be able to take a close peek! The Atlantic Park, Alesund is one of the largest aquariums in Northern Europe, offering spectacular sights of underwater activities!
The Geirangerfjord is listed as UNESCO'S World Heritage Site. Under eternal threat from the Akernest mountain, that when collapsing can cause a Tsunami, destroying close-by villages, this too is a popular sight.
