Florence is known as the main source of Italian Renaissance in Italy. Thus it has a very vast exhibition of art and architecture in its region. This historic city lies on the Arno River in Italy. Another thing in its favour is that its historic centre has been declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

You might run out of time but Florence will still not run out of gorgeous and inspiring things to be experienced by you. You will hold your breath when you get a chance to check all its artistic treasures. It is a city with museums of the highest order. The Bargello contains sculptures of renowned sculptors such as Michelangelo, Donatello and Giambologna. On the other hand, the Accademia has a distinguised collection which includes Michelangelo's David among the others. The gigantic Pitti Palace has Renaissance works by artistic geniuses like Raphael and Titian.

Art lovers can visit the Santa Croce Basilica, and pay respect to the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. If churches hold your interest, then you need to visit the basilicas and churches in Florence which include Santo Spirito, San Lorenzo, Santa Maria Novella and the Orsanmichele among a larger list of the same.

The Fountain of Neptune is an important landmark which is located right in the heart of this artistic city. It is a marble sculpture of the topmost artistic order. A visit to the domed cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, is a must. You will get to experience the beauty and magnificence of the dome. It is also accompanied by the Campanile tower and the Baptistery buildings. This magnificent dome is still considered as the world's largest dome built with brick and mortar. Rarely does a structure hold your attention so easily.

The San Lorenzo market is a good place to shop for leather items and souvenirs. The Mercato Centrale offers the best food options which you can get in Florence. There are other smaller markets too out here. It is important to take a leisurely walk in these places as that's the best way to enjoy this unique experience. If you are interested in good bargains and rare finds, then head towards the famed flea market of Florence. You can find it at the Piazza dei Ciompi. Artifacts, coins, jewellery and other ancient stuff can be bought at this market at very reasonable prices.
