Denmark is a small country in Scandinavia. The country has four major regions - Jutland, a peninsula north of Germany; Funen; Zealand, both islands between Jutland and Sweden; and Bornholm, in the Baltic Sea south of Sweden. Each region has its own unique charm. Surrounded by sea, the country has stunning beaches and lush forests, besides a rich heritage and friendly people.
Getting around in Denmark is quick and easy as it is a small country, affording a visitor to make the most of this beautiful country. Medieval Denmark was a country of Vikings, the explorer-warriors who colonized large areas of Europe. Today Denmark is a prosperous country with its people widely regarded as the happiest in the world.
Jutland is a peninsula protruding from mainland Europe. Its northern tip has sea on all sides, dotted with magnificent white sand beaches. Aalborg is the largest city of the region. Western part of the Jutland, bordered by North Sea, has a fair share of sandy beaches. It is the base from which the islands of Fano, Romo and Mando can be explored. Lush hills and magnificent beaches mark the landscape of eastern Jutland. Parts of the region around Silkeborg is dotted with numerous lakes. Arhus, the second largest city of Denmark, and Djursland Hills, a national park, are important tourist attractions. Southern Jutland, bordering Germany, is popular for hiking in addition to its beaches.
Funen is an island destination connected with Jutland by Little Belt bridge. The island has beautiful landscape with fine beaches and numerous islets. Odense, the island's capital and the third largest city of Denmark, is an important tourist attraction. Zealand features some of the finest beaches of Denmark. Together with its its mountainous and lush landscape, it provides an unforgettable experience. Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark and its largest city, is an old city with rich heritage and its Medieval quarters still retain their old world charm. Kronborg, the Hamlet's Castle in Elsinore, is a major tourist attraction in this part.
Bornholm is a popular destination among vacationers. The island has a rugged landscape with dense forests. Sandy beaches dot the southern part of Bornholm. Important attraction of this island are ruins of Hammershus, Joboland, an amusement park, forest of Almindingen and Bornholms Kunstmuseum. Ronne is the largest city of Bornholm.
